Chapter Seven

NATE DROPPED his bag onto the floor and then flopped down onto the couch. He had a pile of notebooks to correct, but they could wait until later.

Yeah, right. He’d put off going through them for a few days, but they couldn’t wait any longer. Yet another item to add to his growing to-do list. Right then he just needed a moment to recharge his batteries. It was only Wednesday, and he was already thinking about the weekend, and not in a good way. He didn’t want to think about correcting and preparation and planning.

He wanted to think about Dylan.

Nate closed his eyes, focusing his thoughts. Waking up in Dylan’s arms on Sunday morning. Showering with him. Getting him off while the water poured over them. Sharing breakfast. The memories came thick and fast, and Nate replayed them over and over in his head, reliving the sensations, the emotions…. Okay, so Saturday night had been funny, unintentionally so, but he couldn’t deny it had stirred something else inside him—a longing for more.

In all his years of dating women, Nate had never experienced anything as hot as watching Dylan come and knowing it was because of him. Not that his experience was all that extensive. It had been enough for him to get out his laptop and do a little online research. What he found had left him conflicted, and once he’d climbed back out of the rabbit hole he’d plummeted into—three hours later—he was none the wiser. Nate was forced to admit that entertaining and stimulating though it might be, porn hadn’t answered his questions, only given him more of them.

It was time to call in the big guns.

Nate reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his phone. There was always the chance that Josh wouldn’t be available, but he had to try. Right then he needed a friendly voice, one who could understand Nate’s situation.

Josh answered after three or four rings. “Hey, you home from school?”

“Yeah. No meetings tonight, thank God.” Nate hesitated. “Look, are you still working?”

“Nope, just finished. I should be home in about half an hour, once I’ve packed up my tools. Do you want to come over? Is that it?”

“No!” Nate gulped. “Sorry. I didn’t mean for that to come out so harshly. It’s just that… I wanted to talk to you, but—”

“Not with Christian around, huh?”

Relief flooded through him. “Yes. Would that be a problem?”

“Now you have me all intrigued.” Josh chuckled. “Okay, let me call him. Then I’ll get back to you. Wanna meet for a coffee someplace?”

Great idea. “What about Caffè Nero, on Centre Street? I don’t mind coming to Jamaica Plain.”

“Sure, that sounds fine. I’ll just clear it with Christian, in case he’s already working on dinner. Give me a sec.” Josh disconnected.

Nate put down his phone, ran into his bedroom, and began to shuck off his clothes. He was not about to meet Josh in his school attire. By the time he’d squirmed into his jeans and pulled on a T-shirt and sweater, Josh’s text had arrived.
